The SmartWarePens Solution: Combining Handwriting Recognition Software, the Maxell Pen and the SmartWarePens Software Development Platform to Help You Save Time, Money and Increase Your Productivity.
Our Solutions Package is comprised of a Maxell pen, the Anoto pattern or form, the handwriting recognition software, and the SmartWare Software Development platform. The package allows the user to convert existing Word format forms to Anoto forms. These Anoto forms are used to create database tables using the SmartWare platform. At this point the user is able to use the Maxell pen to collect the data the client has written on the Anoto-ized form. Once the pen is docked, the information is transferred to the software for recognition and user verification. After verification the data populates the database fields associated with that form.
The pen functionality relies on a very subtle pattern being printed to ordinary paper. Conventional printing techniques are used to create this pattern. The pattern is comprised of very small dots. This pattern provides a map for the pen to use when collecting stroke data. There are two types of pattern available: copied or unique. Unique pattern is used when a particular use or dedicated purpose is associated with that page. Copied pattern is used in cases where the pattern can be used again and again for the same purpose.
The pen is a combination of camera, processor, memory, battery, ink cartridge and a communication unit. To the user it is ball point pen. To the application, the pen provides information as to the position, pressure, time, rotation, and inclination of the pen when creating a stroke. All of this information is available to the handwriting recognition software. The pen can be docked to a USB cradle or it can transfer data via Blue Tooth technology.
The handwriting recognition is built into the package and all necessary licenses are included. This handwriting recognition has been used on Microsoft tablet PCs and is an industry standard. To improve the recognition, we have bundled it into the Smartware platform and SmartWare database. Recognition accuracy is improved by the use of background database libraries. These libraries can be custom created for any situation or market sector. There are also language libraries available. We can also compare against a database of images or signatures. Almost all database fields will have some expectation of values be it date, numerical, alpha, or a formatted value. This type of data validation greatly improves recognition.
The SmartWare platform provides a software development platform for custom application work, a database for containing special word libraries and many other technical features. This platform is robust and a mature product. It offers a virtually unlimited number of possibilities to the developer. SmartWare source code is owned by us and is under constant development and improvement. The handwriting recognition is integrated into the platform for quicker performance.
