Lawrence
E. Freeman is Chairman of SmartWare
Corporation. He contributes a unique
perspective, knowledge and experience to the
Corporation as an early adopter of
technologies from an end-user perspective.
Mr. Freeman has organized and owned multiple
businesses related to the banking,
insurance, and the investment banking
industries. In 1973, Mr. Freeman began his
career in the life insurance industry and
demonstrated his capacity for hard work as a
personal producer as he became a member of
the "Million Dollar Roundtable". He was
named "Rookie of the Year" by Massachusetts
Mutual Life Insurance in his first year. In
the mid-l980's he was co-owner of an
industry-leading insurance agency
specializing in association marketing that
had more than 600 contracted and producing
agents. Mr. Freeman credits a great deal of
his success to his early adoption and use of
the technologies available to him at the
time.
In 1980, Mr. Freeman began a career in
investment banking through the formation of
various investment banking and consulting
companies, including Raging Bull Capital.
Through his investment banking activities,
Mr. Freeman assumed a position as vice
president and director of marketing for
Builders Staff, Inc., an international
construction firm with more than 5000
employees. He was elevated to the position
of chief operating officer in 1996 and
implemented a reorganization and sale plan
for the company.
Mr. Freeman acquired SmartWare Corporation
in May 2007 and has invested heavily in the
development of the SMRTpen technology seeing
from his business perspective how much time
and money are wasted unnecessarily in
digital transcriptions processes across all
industries.
Mr. Freeman holds a BS in Business
Management from University of Nevada, Las
Vegas and a Chartered Life Underwriter
designation from The American College in
Human Life Studies at Bryn Mar, Pennsylvania
Robert was born and raised in Hong Kong. He immigrated to the US when he was 18. After undergraduate and graduate studies in Chemical Engineering and Computer Science, Robert experienced the formative years of his technical career with General Electric as a systems programmer. He then pursued a career in technical management with Lockheed and Comdisco. As the Senior Vice President and Officer of the Company of the Comdisco Systems Integration Division, Robert was responsible for the disaster recovery and business continuity lines of business. Robert then joined IBM Global Service as the VP of Service Delivery, and was the IBM executive selected to manage the $4B AT&T outsourcing account. NaviSite entered the outsourcing service arena to compete with IBM, and hired Robert as the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Service Delivery. In 2001 Oracle made a strategic decision to enter the outsourcing business as well. Robert joined Oracle as their SVP of Infrastructure.
Michelle
was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada,
and moved to San Diego in late 2007.
Michelle joined SmartWare in January 2008
and brings a history in casino management,
accounting, medical transcription,
administrative positions, along with being a
small business owner.
During
Michelle’s management position, she managed
120 employees in 3 departments at a casino
in Las Vegas. Her position in accounting
entailed managing accounts payable in excess
of $15,000,000 monthly for a casino in the
Las Vegas area. She had a 2-year home-based
business in the medical transcription field.
She also owned and operated 2 small
businesses in the late 90’s until 2002.
Michelle has played many roles in support
behind the scenes and will be a great asset
to SmartWare Corporation.
Larry’s career began with the United States Marine Corps after graduating from High School. He served 8 years in the logistic field and also with the Marine Corps Security Force Battalion. After leaving the Marine Corps he returned to Las Vegas and went to work in the Health Insurance industry for Nevada’s largest health insurance company, Sierra Health Services. While working full time Larry attended college and earned a BS in Business Administration.
His career in the health insurance industry included positions in both the operations and sales side of the business. Larry’s last position was the Manager of the Small Business Retention Unit which had over 2500 small employer group health plans. This book of business generated over $15 million of revenue a year.
Larry is also well versed in business process flows, having worked on two automation projects. The first project Larry was the project manager of an initiative to allow small business owners to purchase health insurance on line, enroll on-line, make automatic premium payments and allow for plan changes. This was a yearlong project which required all of the business rules to be defined and modified to allow for on line purchasing. The second project Larry was one of 6 core team members in a CRM replacement for the sales and underwriting departments, implementing a Siebel solution. The core team was responsible for the entire project including the initial site visits to the vendors, making a recommendation to the CIO, rewriting all of the business process flows, testing and implementation. This project had a $7 million dollar budget and was completed on time.
Larry joined the SmartWare team in January 2008 as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Larry’s background in both Sales and Business operations and streamlining of processes is a welcome addition to the SmartWare team.
John graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa with a BA in Computer Science. His career began at IBM in the Partners in Development group. After a brief stint at West Publishing (now Thomson West), John's career was shaped at Microsoft. He was a Software Design Engineer on the Microsoft Access team. He wrote and enhanced all Microsoft Access Wizards as the sole developer. John joined the SmartWare Corporation in May of 2002 as Software Architect.
Joy graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa with a BA in both Computer Science and Scandinavian Studies. After deciding to pursue the more technical of the two majors, she began her career as a Software Engineer at IBM, working mainly on the install and multiple language support for the iSeries Access for Windows and PowerExecutive products. Joy joined the SmartWare Corporation in September of 2007 as Software Engineer.
Joe graduated from UW-Platteville in Wisconsin, with a BS in Education. During his years in the educational field, he was a member of a team, which implemented the first long distance learning lab in Illinois. He spent 12 years in private business expanding the agricultural investments of the family. He returned to the technical fields as an instructor and later joined SmartWare Corporation as network administrator in 2000. He is currently Director of Logistics for Smartware.
